Why is quality website content important?

“Words are of course the most powerful drug used by mankind” – Rudyard Kipling.

Content is key to the success of any website, it can be comprised of words with graphics, text with audio or written content and video. It is the only way that you can communicate with your potential customers and you need to think of your content as your sales assistants, these guys are on the frontline and you need to make sure that they are telling your customers everything they need to know.

Your website also gets other (non human) vistors, they are called search engine spiders and are

It is also key to remember what the search engines see when looking at your website, you need to understand that engines like Google cannot read images or video content, they can only read text. Search engines send out programs called spiders and these things are blind as bats without the sonar. Therefore if your website has image based links, more images than text and flash based navagation, search engines will ignore it, If you image it as asking a blind person to tell you what is happening in a movie with no sound. You need to describe the content to the search engines, tell them what a page is about, why it is there, where a link will take them, only by doing this will they be able to index and catalouge your site and allow people to refer to it when they are searching on Google or Yahoo. If you want to see how your website looks to a search engine you can check it here http://www.yellowpipe.com/yis/tools/lynx/lynx_viewer.php.

You also need to find keywords that will both tell people what your business is about and take them to the appropriate pages on your website, this is called SEO content and means that certain keywords are included into webcontent to allow the search engines to rank your pages, against your competitons for relavence.

For example: If you sell black oven gloves you will obviously need to include the phrase ‘black oven gloves’ into that products page. If your competitor is also selling black oven gloves and are also including this keyword into their content, then more phrases need to be added to ensure that you and not your competitor get that customer. This is called keyword optimisation and is something that our experts do everyday.

Of course this is only website content, there are all kinds of content that you need to consider and we have listed these below:

YOU - "But i want to have a Flash based website, it is the look my brand wants"

US - "You can have the most beautiful wesbite in the world, but if you want people to find it.. you need to have alot of textual content"

Great webcontent;

  • Build trust
  • Improve your reputation
  • Improve consumer loyalty
  • Enhance the humanity of your brand
  • Increase WOM (word of mouth)
